Comments:Aloha no, everyone. I was just skimming the web and came across this site. What a neat thing this is! I was also wondering if Tia Poopaa is the same Tia whose twin is Art? If that's you, Tia, just wanted to say a special hello to you as well. Aloha!

Comments:I was aware of your contact with my youngest son Derek Takai who is a dentist in Seattle. He does not have much knowledge of family geneology as I do since I am the one in the ohana who researched. Was not aware of the Hoopii in your ohana. I am aware of your Hoopii geneology from my research back in the 70's as I traced my grandmother Annie McKenny. Her father was William McKenny who arrived in Hawaii in 1866 from Connecticut. He married Rebecca Hoopii of Punaluu, on the Big Island and moved to Sprecklesville, Maui where Annie was born in 1892. St. Anthony Church baptismal and marriage records verify the above as well as the Census of 1900 and 1910, the signature book of the Hawaii Woman's League who collected signatures all over Hawaii in the late 1890's as part of the move to restore the monarchy, and info from the late Rev. Edward Kahale, pastor of Kawaihao Church who was followed by Rev.Akaka. Rev. Kahale's mother Ohialao was a sister to Rebecca Hoopii and their parents accor

Reply:Aloha Uncle Ted,
How excitng to know that not only are we related to Aunty Sarah through my Dad, and the Makekau's. But that there is a possibility we are also connected to you through my Mom and the Hoopii's. Although the connection is not known yet, when you have Hawaiian blood there is a good chance we are Ohana, it's just a matter of tracing back far enough. Hope and pray all is well with you, and my cousins. Were you ever able to contact my Uncle Leroy Tacut? Tacut?

Comments:Awesome website. I came by this website purely by accident...thanks to Vivian Sibayan. You may not remember me, but while the Jugoz family was attending the Pasadena Church many years ago, I spent a few Sunday afternoons with them. In fact my sister, Marlyn and I took turns. It was such a treat to spend a whole afternoon with your family. Those were fond & fun memories. I loved your family and missed them when they left Southern California. As for me, I've been married for 30 years. I have 3 adult children and 2 grandchildren. My brother, Ruben Macabitas, is the pastor of the Pasadena church. Evelyn, still lives in the house that we grew up in Pasadena and Marlyn is a principle at Harding Elementary in Santa Barbara. My Mom, Sister Macabitas, is living with Marlyn. Blessings, Susanna

Reply:Aloha Suzanne,
As young as my brothers and I were, "well Me" I could never forget you, and your family. That must have been about 35 or more years ago. How awesome it is to hear from you, and all that God has blessed you, and the Macabitas family through the years. Please give my girlfried, your sister Evelyn my Love & Aloha, as well as Marlyn, Reuben & your mom.
I began creating this site in 1998, when it first started it was more like a webpage. Little by little, as I gathered information & learned the technology it became what is today. I thank God for the site, sometimes it is like therapy for me, and it keeps me out of trouble. As for me, I now live in Hawaii, with Brenda my wife of almost 20 years and my two youngest of six children. We have 10 grandchildren, 7 in the mainland & 3 in Hawaii. I work for a national HMO, in the Informtion Technology department. Mom is in San Jose, Rudy is in Sacramento, Nathan is in Japan? & Dwaine is in Santa Cruz.

Comments:Aloha My name is Jennifer Kekiwi aka Kawai- I just so happend to stumble across this website to discover some interesting connections. I saw that another girl (Krystle Tua) had written to about her Grandfather Lawrence Kekiwi, and that your mother knew his brother Stanley Kekiwi. What a coincidence, my father was Jerome Kekiwi Sr. who is the younger brother of these two mentioned. They come from a family of 16 siblings and were raised in Wailunui Keanae Maui. My tutu man James Kalalani Kekiwi (my fathers, father) came from Kaupo who married my tutu lady Mary Kapono. Yes they were and still are taro farmers in wailuanui. My Aunty Lucille Smith one of the sisters of these brothers resides on my tutu's property now. My Dad and our 'ohana re-opened the Lo'i Kalo when my tutu was in his 80's around 1985 or so and till today with the help of Akua, we still farm. On the other hand my mother is a Ka'auamo from Ke'anae. Her name is Puaala and her parents are Henry & Sarah Ka'auamo o

Reply:Aloha Jennifer,
Yes, I believe we we are ohana to you through Nohua & Hamole of Kaupo - Maui, they are my Great great grandparents. It it good to make contact with you, alot of of my information is from records at the State of Hawaii archives & Census reports in the early 1900s'. Much of this info has been forgotten, or lost to our own Hoopii family. My tutu who is 92 years old, is one of the last three Hoopii Nakupuna. This site is to preserve as much of our genealogy as possible before she passes. If you know of any mistakes in our presentation, I'd appreciate your or your ohanas' input.

I am also familiar with your Moms side, the Kaauamos' are related to my wifes side of the family.

Comments:Great website! Mahalo! Although Hawaiian ancestry is complex, your site has wonderful information. I have been researching my grandmother's last husband, Rev. Edward Kahale, former pastor of Kawaihao Church. Your site was helpful in many ways.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting our Ohana website, if I'm not mistaken Rev. Kahale was family to the Hoopii's on the Big Island.

Comments:Your site is impressive. Started my own trace a few years back, but can't get past my greatgrandmother (apau/apaupau/silva/andrews). Hope I'll have as much luck as you. You have given me inspiration to try harder. Also, I know a Haupu family living in Waihee, Maui. Aloha!!

Genealogy is a hobby I enjoy, but it does take alot of my spare time. Its been six years since I started researching our genealogy. I've found that when you share what you've found, it makes it easier to find new information. Now with the Internet as a tool, "The Koa Tree" helps us make the connections.

Yes, we do have Haupu & Hoopii Ohana in Waihee.

Comments:I am very much interested in getting any further (family tree, if available)information on Charles N. Makekau and Emma Y. Naganoma. My children (Colin Samuel Kananiokealoha and Charles Stewart Manaolanai(cannot remember rest) Black) are great-grandchildren of theirs. Their grandmother is Emma Makekau Black (she married in Honolulu in the late 50's to Charles Barry Black). Please provide me with any information that you might have. Also, if you need assistance in regards to Emma's family here in North Carolina, I would be more than glad to help. I have their maternal side complete and would like to complete the paternal side for them! Thanks for your help!

Reply: Aloha Vicki,
Like your two sons, I am also a great grandson of Samuel? Naohulelua Makekau. Samuel had two daughters before he married Emma Yasue Naganoma, the younger of them was my grandmother Annie Makekau. Annie & Emma Makekau were half sisters, my dad Rudy was Samuels eldest grandchild. Let me know your mailing address, so I can send you some info. I haven't really started a database but someone really should keep track of all our family.

Good to hear from you, hope all is well in Japan & pray Gods blessings upon you as you travel to the philippines. Brenda just had surgery last month and is recovering well. She had the stomach bypass, the same one as Randy Jackson from American Idol. So far she's lost around 50 pounds, and is eating alot less so she'll probably lose some more. Keola made 6 years last month, next year he'll be in the first grade. Ikaika turned 4 in April, and he will be attending prekindergarden next week. Sometimes they can be so rascal, now I know what it was like for mom and dad, when we were their age. Did you see Aunty Angelitas page? we met some of our long lost ohana.

Love & Aloha
